Co-Lin splits at Jones County

ELLISVILLE - The No. 4 ranked Co-Lin Lady Wolves dominated the Jones County Lady Bobcats to take a 87-72 South Division win. In the men's game, the Wolves suffered a 108-79 loss. Lady Wolves 87, Lady Bobcats 72

Brandi Simmons and Rachel Vigers scored 21 points apiece as the Lady Wolves dominated the Jones County Lady Bobcats 87-72. Co-Lin remains undefeated at 20-0, 9-0 in the division. The Lady Bobcats fall to 15-5, 6-3 in the division.

The Lady Wolves jumped out an early, but the Lady Bobcats went on a 9-0 run to pull within 4. Co-Lin went on a 13-0 run of their own and took a 39-24 lead at halftime.

Co-Lin built a 28 point lead, 70-45, with under 9 minutes remaining. The Lady Bobcats, led by Tanecka Carey's 20 second half points, pulled to within 13 in the final minutes of the game. Carey finished with a game-high 29 points, including 5 3-pointers.

The Lady Wolves shot a blistering 70 percent, 21-for-30, in the second half. They ended up shooting 58 percent for the game compared to Jones' 38 percent. Co-Lin outscored Jones 54-30 in the paint and the bench outscored the Lady Bobcats 22-12.

Simmons led on the backboards with 10 rebounds. Vigers finished the game with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot. Sophomore Latoria Holder chipped in 13 points. Paige Webster came off the bench and added 11 points.

Ashley Lee had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Moore chipped in 10 points. Crystal Tucker had 7 rebounds to lead Jones.

After winning two straight South Division games, the Co-Lin Wolves suffered a 108-79 setback at the hands of the  Bobcats. The Wolves fall to 5-15, 3-6 in the division. Jones improves to 12-8, 7-2 in the division.

Co-Lin fell behind 21-13 early in the first half, but scored 4 straight points to pulled within 4. The Bobcats went on a 20-10 run in the final 4:54 of the half to take a 51-36 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bobcats kicked it into high-gear outscoring the Wolves 57-43. They dominated the paint scoring 62 points and their bench scored 54 points. Poor free throw shooting plagued the Wolves as they went 17-for-32 from the charity stripe.

Freshman Marcus Hooten led Co-Lin with 30 points. Michael Campbell posted a season-high 25 points. Freshman guard Anthony Evans chipped in 13 points.
