Pinkston leads Lady Wolves in sweep of Holmes

WESSON - Pitcher Bethany Pinkston picked up to more wins to improve to 12-2 on the season as she directed  the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a sweep of the Holmes Lady Bulldogs, 1-0 and 8-5. The Lady Wolves (12-5) begin South Division play on Wednesday when they host the Pearl River Lady Wildcats at 4 p.m.

Pinkston, a freshman from Brusly, La., threw a shutout in the first game scattering 4 hits, striking out 10 and allowing no walks in 7 innings.

The Lady Wolves scored the only run of the game in the second inning. Freshman Haley Sones led off the inning with a double to right center field. Third baseman Holli Smith singled scoring Sones.

Adding a single apiece were Kayla Coleman and Katie Stewart.

Co-Lin 8, Holmes 5

Each team scratched a run in the first inning. The Lady Bulldogs took a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning. Co-Lin tied the game at 3-all in the bottom of the third.

Holmes answered with 2 runs in the top of the fourth inning giving them a 5-3 lead.

Coleman hit a 2-out RBI single as the Lady Wolves took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Lady Wolves added 2 more insurance runs to get the win.

Leading Co-Lin at the plate was Sones with a double and a single. Debra Hamer doubled. Daniele Wilson, Coleman and Hodges had 2 singles apiece.

Starter Terri Hodges allowed 3 runs (unearned) on 5 hits, struck out 1 and allowed no walks in 4.2 innings. Pinkston worked the final 2.1 innings allowing 2 hits while striking out 6.
