WESSON - Co-Lin's Kolby Byrd was selected in the 13th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday. The catcher from Brookhaven was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 410th pick overall and the first Mississippi community college player drafted.
"I'm so proud for Kolby, he played well for us this season," said Co-Lin Head Coach Keith Case. "We're excited that he will be continuing his career at the next level."
Byrd led the Wolfpack in home runs (8), RBIs (36) and slugging percentage (.618). The freshman catcher had a .344 batting average and was second on the team in total bases (81), hits (45), doubles (10) and walks (14). He was selected Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Second Team All-State.
The Brookhaven Academy product was a red-shirt transfer from Mississippi State.
