Wolves drop opener to Holmes, 88-75

GOODMAN, Miss. – The Wolves dropped their season opener to Holmes, 88-75, in a contest that saw many swings in momentum. The Wolves trailed by just three at intermission, but the Bulldogs outscored the Wolves 49-39 in the second to pull away with the win. Co-Lin plays host to the Mississippi Delta Trojans on Monday, November 5 in Mullen Gymnasium for the first home game of the 2018-2019 season beginning at 7:30 p.m. Fans that cannot make it to the game can catch the action live at colinathletics.com or listen live at WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

A 10-2 Holmes run in the middle of the first half helped the Bulldogs stretch the lead to double digits, 19-9, with 12:13 remaining. Co-Lin battled back later in the half with a 15-2 run led by two three-pointers from Miles Daniels. Cameron Woodall, Dayquan Perkins, and Xavier Heidelberg all played a part in the offensive onslaught that gave Co-Lin a 29-28 lead with just 4:39 remaining until halftime.

The Bulldogs recovered when Holmes' Winford Ross hit a big three to swing momentum back to the middle. Going into the locker rooms, Holmes led by three, 39-36.

The Wolves tied the game at 43 all early in the second half when Damarius Brooks capitalized on a turnover with a layup, but the Bulldogs once again snatched the energy back with a three-pointer on the other end of the floor. The Bulldog's lead grew to 11 points, 59-48, over the next four minutes. Co-Lin cut it to six with 9:48 remaining with another three-pointer from Daniels and a second chance layup from Heidelberg, but it wasn't enough has Holmes pulled away in the final nine minutes of the game.

Miles Daniels led Co-Lin with 23 points. The sophomore was 8-of-15 from the floor and 5-of-11 from three-point range. Xavier Heidelberg scored 12, while Cameron Woodall posted 10. Dayquan Perkins led the Wolves in rebounds with nine. The freshman also had nine points on the night. Damarius Brooks led the way with five assists on the night.

Kassim Nicholson led Holmes with a double-double. Nicholson posted 25 points and 13 rebounds. Czar Perry scored 19, while Tanorrio Ransburgh poured in 15. Perry also led the Bulldogs with five assists and four steals.
