Vanlandingham’s impressive play earns her MACJC Player of the Week honors

Vanlandingham

April 18, 2017

WESSON – Kamryn Vanlandingham, a sophomore catcher from Hazlehurst, earned MACJC Player of the Week recognition after a stellar week against Pearl River and Northeast Community College. The Copiah Academy graduate, went 12-for-13 at the plate and reached base on 16 consecutive plate appearances, extending her streak to 20. She also had a grand slam and a solo homerun on the week.

“It’s an honor to have won this and to represent my school,” said Vanlandingham. “My teammates have been behind me during every at bat and every game.”

Vanlandingham not only leads the Lady Wolves with a .486 batting average, but also is No. 30 in the nation. She is No. 18 in stolen bases and No. 43 in both hits and triples.

“I had a lot of people over the week ask what was going through my mind at the plate, and I would tell them I was just going to get the job done,” said Vanlandingham.

“Kamryn’s had a streak that is hard to fathom,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “She’s reached base safely in her last 20 plate appearances…she’s really seeing the ball well and squaring balls up, it’s been fun to watch.”
