PERKINSTON, Miss. – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves netted 26 points in the first quarter Thursday night on their way to a 63-49 victory over the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs. The win moves the Wolves to 10-1 on the year and 1-1 in the MACJC South Division. Co-Lin is back in action Tuesday, January 16 as the Lady Wolves travel to Utica to take on the Hinds Bulldogs. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Wolves set themselves up nicely in the first quarter of play with an explosive offensive performance. The game started with a 9-1 Co-Lin run through the first three minutes. The Lady Wolves continued to pour in baskets from under the rim and stretched the lead to as many as 14 in the opening period.
Co-Lin's offense slowed slightly in the second as the Lady Wolves rattled in 16 points. The second quarter was similar to the first in that the Lady Wolves struggled beyond the arc, but capitalized on opportunities near the basket and took advantage of trips to the foul line. Co-Lin led 42-24 going into the half.
The second half was not as productive for the Lady Wolves, but Co-Lin's 21 points held the Lady Bulldogs at bay. The Lady Wolves prevented the Lady Bulldogs from going on any runs late in the contest and secured the road victory.
T'Kyra Hicks led the Lady Wolves with 18 points. Kyeonia Harris and Alexus Holt added 11 points of their own in the Lady Wolves win to round out Co-Lin's double digit scorers. Karry Callahan led on the boards with nine rebounds, while Alexandria Patton and Diamond Smith hauled in six. Smith also led the team with four blocks. Holt had another notable stat with six steals.
Azaria Howard led Gulf Coast with 17 points while Eanna Sims posted 13. Deboney Wilson scored 10. Keiara Williams led the Lady Bulldogs in rebounds with 11.
Co-Lin shot 39 percent (20-for-52) from the field, 13 percent (1-for-8) from the three-point line, and 71 percent (22-for-31) from the foul stripe. The Lady Bulldogs shot 33 percent (18-for-55) from the field, zero percent (0-for-10) from beyond the arc, and 52 percent (13-for-25) from the free throw line.
