J. Blake Smith starts his first season as head coach of the Wolves Men’s and Women’s tennis programs in 2016. Blake was a member of the Wolfpack Men’s tennis team in both 2008 and 2009. In 2008 Blake was named to the NJCAA National Academic Team of the Year. The 2009 squad, with the help of Smith, won the MACJC State Championship. Smith’s sophomore performance earned him 2nd Team All-Region 23 honors. Blake has years of coaching experience as he has taught private lessons throughout the community for the past four years and served as the assistant Men’s coach this past season.
Smith is a graduate of Loyd Star High School, Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Alcorn State University, and the University of Southern Mississippi. Smith earned his Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 2011 from Alcorn and his Masters degree in Family Nurse Practitioner from USM in 2014. Off the court, Blake is employed with King’s Daughters Medical Center and Hurst Review Services.
Highly successful as the former head coach of the men's and women's teams, Brenda Smith enters her first season as the assistant coach of Co-Lin men's tennis team.
Smith coached the Lady Wolves for nine years (1997-2005) and the Wolves for three years (2013-2016) compiling an overall record of 132-32 including six consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Tournament. Her teams won 22 individual state championships, two team state championships, and had nine teams ranked nationally. Five of those teams were recognized as the top Academic Team of the year (1999, 2003, 2004, 2014, and 2015) and five other teams were No. 2 in the nation academically. Eight players have eanred the NJCAA PInnacle Award (4.0 GPA) and ten were recognized academically by the NJCAA.
Smith was selected Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2002 and served as the president of the NJCAA Women’s Tennis Coaches Association for four years. She was inducted into the Cloud County Community College (KS) and Mississippi College's Sports Hall of Fame.
A member of the Co-Lin staff as an instructor and chairperson to the Heath and Physical Education Division from 1996-2008, she has served as Dean of Student Services since 2008.
Smith is a graduate of Cloud County Community College (KS) and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College in Clinton. She and her husband, Steve, are the parents of two sons, Matt and Josh. They are active members of Clear Branch Baptist Church.
