East Central sweeps doubleheader from Co-Lin
DECATUR – The East Central Warriors swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Co-Lin Wolves 12-0 in five innings and 4-3 in game two.
GAME 1
Warrior pitchers Gage Tufnell and Jeremy Martin teamed up for a two hit shutout. Tuftnell, the starter, threw four innings allowed no runs, two hits, four strikeouts and one walk. Martin pitched the fifth inning striking out one and walking one.
East Central score two runs in the first, one in the second, two in the third and exploded seven runs in the fourth.
Absorbing the loss for Co-Lin was Lance Elsen (Madison/Canton Academy). He allowed five runs (four earned), on three hits, struck out one and walked three in two innings. Sevante Quinn (Brookhaven/Brookhaven High School) threw 1.2 innings, gave up two earned runs on one hit, struck out one and walked four. Hunter Reinike (Terry/Copiah Academy) allowed five runs on four hits. Lance Hanna (Union/Union High School) gave up no runs and two hits.
Leading the Warriors 10-hit attack was Kade Turnage who went 3-for-3 and two RBIs. Amani Larry had a pair of hits. Adding support with a hit apiece were Roper Bell, Jesse Boydstun, Eli Harrison, Trey Lewis and Stephen Wolf.
Peyton Parker (West Monroe, LA/West Ouachita High School) and Noah Freeman (Mendenhall/Simpson Academy) collected the only two hits for the Wolves.
GAME 2
The Wolves regrouped for game two jumping out in front 1-0 in the top of the second inning. Kenner Bizot (Wesson/Wesson High School) led off with a single to left. He advanced to second on a ground out by Freeman. Hunter Estes (Purvis/Lamar Christian) singled left, Bizot advanced to third. Wade Nichols (Brandon/McLaurin High School) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bizot scored on a wild pitch.
East Central tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth on a wild pitch.
The Wolves retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Reed Barlow (Florence/Florence High School) scored on double by Will-Lawson Harkins (Carthage/Leake Academy).
The Warriors answered in the bottom of the inning on Branson Sharpley's RBI double that tied the game at 2-2. An error allowed Sharpley to score from third as East Central regained the lead 3-2.
Co-Lin tied the game in the top of the sixth. Parker and Tom Biggs (Columbia, LA/West Monroe High School) reached base on back-to-back walks. Both runners advanced on a double steal. Bizot's sac fly to center scored Parker and tie the game
In the bottom of the sixth, Boydstun singled and advanced to third on an error by the catcher. Trey Lewis' fly ball to right scored Boystun and gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead that was enough to win the game.
For the Wolves, Barlow was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Harkins doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Biggs, Bizot and Estes.
At the plate for East Central, Eli Harrison doubled twice, Mitchell McCollough and Sharpley doubled and Boydston had a pair of singles.
