Chamblee Era Begins at Co-Lin

WESSON - The 2023 Co-Lin Baseball season will be the first for the Wolves under new head coach Adam Chamblee and he is excited about the upcoming season.

"We had a good fall despite having to work around the problem of not having a home field this fall, but that was a good problem for us to have," stated Chamblee. "Traveling to practice every day was an obstacle, but we made it through that, and I feel like our guys worked really hard during the fall and have bought in to what we as a staff want to do with them this season."

"We went 4-4 over the fall against some tough outside competition from other junior colleges, which was good to see from our squad," added Chamblee. "I am pleased with what I saw from our fairly young squad."

In addition to a new head coach and staff, the 2023 Wolves Baseball team will also have a newly renovated Sullivan Field they will be playing on this season.

"I think things are headed in the right direction for us. The facility upgrades are going to be a big boost in recruiting for us. As for this year's team, we have held them to a standard of what we expect and they know that we are not going to waver from that expectation," stated Chamblee. "The guys are playing the game hard and are going out and competing every day which we are excited about seeing."

The Wolves roster features 31 players with 10 returning sophomores and 21 incoming freshmen on the team. The 10 returning sophomores are pitcher heavy for the Wolves including right handers Wyatt Hodges (Brookhaven), Tedrick Page (Taylorsville), Conner Wilson (Osyka), Kade May (Florence), Jordan McKenzie (Franklinton, La.), Will Whittington (Hattiesburg), and Cooper Williams (Madison) and one left hander Hunter Rhymes (Lucedale). The two returning position players for the Wolves are outfielders Josh Boone (Foxworth) and Harrison Mohead (Madison), while Jordan McKenzie also saw some infield playing time for the Wolves during the 2022 season.

"Josh Boone is one of our team captains and he plays his tail off every single day. The guys respect him, and he will be in centerfield for us just about every day. If you look at his numbers from last season, he had a really good year at the plate and in the field and we are expecting more of the same from him. We are super excited about his potential for the upcoming year," said Chamblee. "On the mound we are going to be sophomore heavy, and these guys got some quality innings last year. They know that they have improved from last year and are ready to attack this sophomore year after experiencing the growing pains as a freshman while learning about our league. We are also excited about having Harrison Mohead back in left field for us with all the experience he brings from last year."

The Wolves schedule features nonconference matchups against four preseason nationally ranked opponents including No. 1 and defending DII National Champion Pearl River, No. 5 Lansing, No. 9 Meridian, and No. 15 Hinds. The Wolves start the season on the road facing off against Nunez Community College on Wednesday, February 8, and then will have their home opener in newly renovated Sullivan Field on Friday, February 10, against Rend Lake College.
