Wolves Wrap Up Regular Season with Sweep

WESSON – The Co-Lin Baseball team finished the 2026 regular season hosting Coahoma on Tuesday, April 28. The Wolves swept the Tigers taking game one, 14-5, and game two, 3-0.

GAME ONE

The Tigers got on the board first as they scored one run in the top of the first and took an early 1-0 lead.

However, the Wolves responded with six run in the bottom half as Bryson Jones (Brandon) hit a leadoff double to get the offense going. Later in the inning, Trey Davidson (Brandon) hit a single to put runners on the corners with one out. After Jones scored on a passed ball to tie the game, Bradley Hanlon (Monroe, LA) hit an RBI-single scoring Davidson and giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, John Mark Grissom (Pearl) hit an RBI-triple scoring Hanlon while Avery Griffin followed with an RBI-single scoring Grissom and increasing the lead to 4-1. Brady White (Ethel) then hit an RBI-double scoring Griffin while an RBI-single by Evan Holifield (Stringer) pushing the lead to 6-1.

The Tigers then scored two in the top of the fifth to cut the lead down to 6-3. The Wolves responded with three runs in the bottom half as Grissom hit a leadoff single to get the offense going. Grissom then scored on an RBI-single by Griffin while White then smashed a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a two-run home run to increase the lead to 9-3.

The Tigers then took advantage of an error by the Wolves in the top of the sixth to score one run and added a run in the top of. The seventh to cut the lead down to 9-5. However, the Wolves responded with four runs in the bottom of the seventh as Griffin ambushed and crushed the first pitch of the inning over the fence in left field for a leadoff solo home run increasing the lead to 10-5. White then singled while Kade Walker (Magee) then drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. After both runners advanced on an error on a pickoff attempt, Cam Murphy (Brandon) ripped a two-RBI double scoring White and Walker extending the lead to 12-5. Later in the inning, Murphy scored on an RBI-single by Jacob Chancelor (Brandon) pushing the lead to 13-5.

The final run for the Wolves came in the bottom of the eighth as Grissom was hit-by-pitch, Griffin drew a walk, and Bryan Travis (Gulfport) was hit-by-pitch to load the bases. Later in the inning, after Murphy reached on a fielder's choice while Grissom was forced out, Drake Frasier (Waynesboro) was then hit-by-pitch scoring Griffin increasing the lead to 14-5.

The Tigers then went flyout, walk, strikeout, hit-by-pitch, and popout in the top of the ninth to secure the game one victory for the Wolves.

The Wolves totaled 15 hits as Avery Griffin and Brady White both went 3-for-3 at the plate while John Mark Grissom had two hits with Bryson Jones, Cam Murphy, Donovan Moore, Trey Davidson, Bradley Hanlon, Jacob Chancelor, and Evan Holifield had one hit each. Griffin and White led the Wolves in RBIs with three apiece while Murphy had two RBIs with Hanlon, Chancelor, Grissom, Holifield, and Drake Frasier adding one RBI each.

Akavion Griffith (Magee) got the start and improved to 2-3 overall while pitching 4.2 innings and allowing three run, all earned, on six hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. Lucian Walker (Starkville) pitched one inning of relief allowing one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout. Jacob Buffalo (Foxworth) pitched one inning of relief allowing one earned run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout while Caleb Flynn (Laurel) pitched two innings of scoreless and hitless relief with one walk and three strikeouts.

GAME TWO

The Wolves got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first as Bryson Jones drew a leadoff walk to get the offense started. Later in the inning, Trey Davidson crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Wolves then added a single run in the bottom of the third as Donovan Moore hit a leadoff double and then scored on an RBI-double by Davidson increasing the lead to 3-0. The Wolves then looked to add runs in the fourth and fifth innings as they put runners on base in both innings, but double plays brought the potential scoring threats to an end as the lead held at 3-0.

Once again, the Wolves looked to add in the bottom of the sixth as they got two runners on with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning as the score remained, 3-0. In the top of the seventh, the Tigers drew a leadoff walk, but back-to-back strikeouts followed by a lineout ended the inning securing the game two victory and sweep for the Wolves.

The Wolves totaled six hits as Trey Davidson and Avery Griffin had two hits apiece with Donovan Moore and Bradley Hanlon had one hit each. Davidson had all three RBIs for the Wolves.

Wes White (Flowood) got the start and improved to 8-4 overall with the win while pitching five innings and allowing one hit with five walks and seven strikeouts. Cohen Weinhofer (Ocean Springs) pitched one inning of hitless and scoreless relief with one walk. Nash Sturdivant collected his fourth save of the season with one inning of hitless and scoreless relief with one walk and two strikeouts.

Co-Lin finished the regular season 33-18 overall, 18-10 in MACCC play, and have qualified for the NJCAA Region 23 Baseball Tournament. The Wolves will be the No. 5 seed and will play te No. 4 seed Jones Bobcats in Poplarville on Tuesday, May 5.
