Allen leads Co-Lin to 90-81 win over East Central
WESSON - Sophomore JD Allen scored a career-high 30 points, including 6-for-10 from behind the arc, to lead the Co-Lin Wolves to a 90-81 win over the East Central Warriors.
"Our guys played well together tonight," said Co-Lin head coach Kenny Bizot. "JD and TJ really stepped up and played well to help us secure the win."
In the first half, Allen was deadly from three point range going 4-of-6. The Wolves as a team shot 9-for-16 as they built a 49-37 halftime lead. The Warriors came out fighting in the second half. Ray made a pair of free throws to cut the Co-Lin lead to 64-60 with 10:37 remaining. The Wolves would answer going on a 14-3 run with 6:25 left. East Central would make another run in the final two minutes in the game, but they would fall short.
For the game, the Wolves shot 58 percent from the field, 52 percent from 3-point range. Co-Lin would outrebound the Warriors, who have two centers Solomon Ray (6'10) and Timothy McElroy (6'9) 38-35.
In addition to his 30 points, Allen had 7 rebounds and 3 steals. TJ Monroe chipped in 13 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Daniel Smothers added 12 points and 3 assists. Jordan Marshall scored 12 points and pulled down 6 rebounds. Cameron Butler dished out 4 assists.
East Central had four players in double figures led by Demjion Topps and Darien Newchurch with 19 and 18 points respectively. Ray chipped in 11 points and McElroy added 10 points.
