Wolves Crush Bears

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to action for their final home game of the fall semester as they hosted Bevill State on Monday, December 8. The Wolves lead wire-to-wire on their way to an 84-64 victory over the Bears.

The Wolves opened the game with a 12-5 scoring run that was started with a three by Jackson Payne (Madison) and capped off with a pair of made free throws by Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) to hold a lead by that margin with 14:25 left to play. The Wolves then used an 11-7 scoring run as Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) sunk a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 23-12 with 7:54 remaining in the first half. The Bears then closed out the half with a 12-9 scoring run, but the Wolves held the lead at 32-25 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves then opened the second half with a 10-6 scoring run to push their lead to 42-31 with 15:54 remaining. The Wolves continued to flex their muscles and used a 14-8 scoring run capped off by a three by LeBron Deal (Monroe, LA) to extend their lead to 56-39 with 9:43 left to play. The Wolves then used a 15-8 scoring run finished off with a layup by Zach Thompson (Hattiesburg) to increase the lead to 71-47 with 4:39 left on the clock in the second half. The Bears then closed out the game with a 17-13 scoring run, but never got closer than within 15 points of the Wolves lead as they secured the 84-64 win.

The Wolves had three players in double-digit scoring figures as all three were also the highest scorers of the night with LeBron Deal leading the way with 17 points along with one rebound, one assist, and two steals. Moustapha Salekh flirted with a double-double performance posting 16 points and eight rebounds while Tyrell Bowles did have a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. For Bowles, it is his second-straight double-double and his seventh of the season.

Koie Williams (Philadelphia) and Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) had eight points each while Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, TX) had seven points. Zach Thompson had five points while Jackson Payne and Jamichael Green (Rolling Fork) had three points each with Tristian Lucas (Pearl) added two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 5-5 overall and will hit the road on Thursday, December 11 to face off against Gadsden State. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Cardinals is set for 7 p.m., in Gadsden, Alabama.
