WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball played host to Mississippi Delta on Monday, January 12 to open MACCC play. The Wolves fought off a strong second half surge by the Trojans to earn a 78-68 win.
The Wolves opened the first half with an 11-6 scoring run to hold a lead by that margin with 15:56 left to play. The Wolves then used an 11-7 scoring run to push their lead to 22-13 with 9:47 remaining on the clock. The Wolves then went on an 8-7 scoring run to extend the lead to 30-20 with 4:30 left in the first half. The Trojans closed out the half with a 10-9 scoring run, but the Wolves held the lead at 39-30 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.
The Trojans carried their momentum over to the opening minutes of the second half as they scored nine unanswered points to tie the game at 39-39 with 17:36 left on the clock. Both teams then matched scoring totals adding 11 points each as the game remained tied at 50-50 with 13:31 left to play. The Wolves then went on 15-6 scoring run capped off by a pair of free throws by Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) to take a 65-56 lead with 7:08 left in the second half. The Wolves then closed out the game with a 13-12 scoring run to secure the 78-68 victory over the Trojans.
The Wolves had four players in double-digit scoring figures as Tyrell Bowles led the way with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds leading all players in both categories. Tristian Lucas (Pearl) added 15 points with four rebounds and three assists while Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) and Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, TX) had 12 points each with Salekh adding six rebounds, two steals, and one block while Creggett had two rebounds, two assists, and one steal to his night.
Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) had nine points, Koie Williams (Philadhelphia) had six points, Jackson Payne (Madison) had three points, and Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin improves to 8-6 overall and will return to action on the road at East Mississippi on Thursday, January 15. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Lions is set for 7:30 p.m., at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum in Scooba.
