Wolves Cruise Past Tigers

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team returned to conference play by hosting Coahoma on Saturday, February 7. The Wolves used a strong effort on both sides of the court to beat the Tigers, 78-62.

The teams traded baskets and leads in the opening minutes of the first half, but ultimately the Wolves held a lead, 5-3, with 14:54 left to play. The Wolves then went on an 11-6 scoring run finished off with a pair of free throws by Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) and growing the lead to 16-9 with 10:01 on the clock. The Wolves then went on a 9-5 scoring run capped off as Moustpha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) sunk a free throw to increase the lead to 25-14 with 6:43 remaining. The Wolves then closed out the half with a 9-7 scoring run ended with a made three by Tristian Lucas (Pearl) and pushing the lead to 34-21 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Wolves offense came out in the second half and continued to hold the momentum gained from the first half as they opened with 12-6 scoring run capped off by a three by Crozier making the lead 46-27 with 15:18 left on the clock. The Tigers responded with a 10-5 scoring run, but the Wolves held the lead at 51-37 with 9:17 remaining. However, the Wolves responded with an 8-7 scoring run as Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) made a layup to increase the lead to 59-45 with 6:21 left to play in the half. The Wolves then closed out the game outscoring the Tigers 19-17 to secure the 78-62 victory.

Tyrell Bowles led the way for the Wolves as he had a game-leading 22 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor and narrowly missed out on a double-double with nine rebounds along with two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Moustapha Salekh added 17 points and seven rebounds with two assists and one steal Tristian Lucas and Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) had nine points each.

Koie Williams (Philadelphia) had eight points with six assists while Caleb Crozier added six points with three rebounds and two steals. Jamei McGhee (Heidelberg) had three points while LeBron Deal (Monroe, LA) and Dylan Creggett (DeSoto, TX) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Wolves.

Co-Lin improves to 11-8 overall, 4-2 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Pearl River on Monday, February 9. Tip-off between the Wolves and the Wildcats is set for 7:30 p.m., at Marvin R. White Coliseum in Poplarville.
