Wolves Season Ends in Quarterfinals Loss

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Men's Soccer team fought their way into the NJCAA Gulf South District Playoffs and earned a quarterfinal game on the road against Gulf Coast on Friday, November 1. The Wolves came up short against the No. 6 Bulldogs, 1-0.

"This was a tough result to take because I thought we battled hard all game and had chances to win it," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "Fair play to Gulf Coast though because they capitalized late on a quick counterattack for their score. I am proud of the boys for their effort and determination."

The first half featured a back-and-forth battle for both sides as the teams had multiple scoring chances, but none found the back of the net. Ultimately the first half ended with no score for either team on the board. The game remained scoreless throughout most of the second half and looked to be headed to overtime, but the Bulldogs found the back of the net in the 87th minute of the match. The Bulldogs then stalled the Wolves for the final few minutes of the match to seal the 1-0 win.

Co-Lin finishes the season 8-5-2, 5-4-2 in conference play.

"I thought we had a pretty good year overall," added Cosgrave. "I would have loved to have gone further in the playoffs, but we have to deal with it and come back stronger next year. We had a lot of freshmen coming in and getting lots of playing time this season, so with the addition of some top level talent, I think we can be a very competitive team again next year."
