Wolves Beat Bears in Season Opener

WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Tennis team started off the 2022 season with their home opener against Southwest on Friday, January 28. The Wolves beat the Bears by a final of 8-1.

The Wolves swept the doubles matches as the number one team of Julian Parada and Julian Toloza won 8-2 over Tyler Howell and Candan Grantham, while the number two team of Ty Nelson and Bryce Oster also win by a final of 8-2 over Parker Wilks and Dontavius McCoy. The third doubles team of Lawson Pearson and Mason Pounds beat J.P. Johnson and Ryan Simmons by a final of 8-3.

In the singles matches Parada and Toloza won their combination in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) over Howell and Caleb Boutwell respectively. Nelson beat Grantham in the third singles match after losing the first set but rallying to take the second set and tiebreaker. Pearson won the fourth singles match over McCoy (6-4, 6-0) while Oster won the fifth singles match by winning the first set, losing the second, and then winning the tiebreaker. The lone singles win for the Bears came in the sixth singles match as Wilks beat Caleb Myers (7-5, 6-4).

The Wolves are now 1-0 overall and in conference play and will return to action with a road match against Hinds on Tuesday, February 1 at 2 p.m.
