Tennis Sweeps Hinds on the Road

RAYMOND, MS – The Co-Lin Men's and Women's Tennis teams hit the road for a non-conference matchup against on Hinds Tuesday, February 17. Both teams completed the sweep on the day, with the Wolves defeating Hinds 8-1 and the Lady Wolves earning a 5-4 victory. 

WOMEN'S MATCH

The Lady Wolves claimed two of three doubles points as Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Ruri Takeuchi (Chiba, Japan) dominated at one doubles with an 8-0 win. Domenica Gruezo (Quito, Ecuador) and Ady Locke (Brookhaven) dropped two doubles, 5-8, while Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Clara Barton Calcote (Wesson) secured the point at three doubles, 8-1. 

In singles play, Takeuchi picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at one singles. Gruezo fell at two singles, 6-3, 5-7, 0-1 (5). Labusch dropped three singles, 5-7, 0-6, while Locke fell at four singles, 2-6, 1-6. Calcote earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at five singles, and Ella Thompson (Brookhaven) secured the clinching point at six singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory to give the Lady Wolves the 5-4 win. 

MEN'S MATCH

The Wolves took two of three doubles points. Nikoloz Gurgenidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) dropped one doubles, 7-9. Nick Tozer (Belrose, Australia) and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) earned an 8-0 win at two doubles, while James Rooks (Jackson) and Lane Breland (Perkinston) secured an 8-6 victory at three doubles. 

In the singles matches, the men dominated as Gurgenidze picked up a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (9) win at one singles. Tozer followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at two singles, while Bucek won decisively 6-0, 6-0 at three singles. Rooks earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at four singles, with Leggett securing a 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 victory at five singles. Breland captured the final win of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at six singles. 

With the wins, both teams improve to 1-0 on the season and will open conference play on Friday, February 20, hosting East Central.
