Tennis Splits Day with Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday to take on the Bulldogs. The Lady Wolves earned a 6-3 victory, marking their first win over the Bulldogs in the past five years. The men fell to the Bulldogs, 3-6.

WOMEN'S MATCH

The Lady Wolves claimed two of the three doubles points. Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Ruri Takeuchi (Chiba, Japan) earned an 8-6 win in one doubles. Domenica Gruezo (Quito, Ecuador) and Ady Locke (Brookhaven) fell at two doubles, 4-8, while Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Clara Barton Calcote (Wesson) secured an 8-6 victory at three doubles.

In singles play, the Lady Wolves won four of six matches. Takeuchi earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at one singles, followed by a 7-5, 6-4 victory from Gruezo at two singles. Labusch fell at three singles, 0-6, 2-6, and Locke dropped her match at four singles, 0-6, 1-6. Calcote secured a 7-6 (3), 6-0 win at five singles, and Ella Thompson (Brookhaven) added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at six singles to clinch the 6-3 win for the Lady Wolves.

MEN'S MATCH

The Wolves earned one of three doubles points as Nikoloz Gurgenidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) picked up an 8-6 win at one doubles. Nick Tozer (Belrose, Australia) and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) fell at two doubles, 6-8, while James Rooks (Jackson) and Lane Breland (Perkinston) dropped three doubles, 3-8.

In singles action, the Wolves claimed two of six matches. Gurgenidze earned a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory at one singles, and Bucek picked up a 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 win at three singles. Tozer fell at two singles, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, while Rooks dropped his match at four singles, 1-6, 1-6. Mason Brand fell at five singles, 1-6, 0-6, and Leggett was defeated at six singles, 4-6, 1-6.

The Lady Wolves improve to 3-0, while the Wolves move to 2-1. Both teams return to action Friday at Holmes.
