Tennis Takes Both Matches Against Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The Co-Lin men's and women's tennis teams traveled to Meridian on Thursday, March 5 to take on the Eagles. Both teams dominated the day, with the men earning a 9-0 victory and the women picking up an 8-1 win.

WOMEN'S MATCH

The Lady Wolves swept all three doubles points. Georgina Labusch (Verl, Germany) and Ruri Takeuchi (Chiba, Japan) earned an 8-2 win at one doubles. Domenica Gruezo (Quito, Ecuador) and Ady Locke (Brookhaven) followed with an 8-5 victory at two doubles, while Allie Grace McNeill (Brookhaven) and Clara Barton Calcote (Wesson) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at three doubles.

In singles play, the Lady Wolves won five of six matches. Takeuchi earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at one singles, followed by a 6-1, 6-3 victory from Gruezo at two singles. Labusch secured a 7-6, 6-0 win at three singles. Locke fell at four singles, 7-6, 6-7, 0-1 (5). Calcote added a 6-2, 6-0 win at five singles, and Ella Thompson (Brookhaven) closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at six singles to secure the 8-1 win.

MEN'S MATCH

The Wolves also swept all three men's doubles matches. Nikoloz Gurgenidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) and Jake Bucek (Geelong, Australia) earned an 8-5 win at one doubles. Nick Tozer (Belrose, Australia) and Jax Leggett (Bogue Chitto) secured an 8-2 victory at two doubles, while James Rooks (Jackson) and Lane Breland (Perkinston) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at three doubles.

In singles action, the Wolves once again swept all matches as Gurgenidze battled for a 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 win at one singles, while Tozer followed with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at two singles. Bucek picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at three singles, and Rooks earned a 4-0 win by retirement at four singles. Mason Brand secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory at five singles, and Leggett closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-1 win at six singles to secure the 9-0 victory for the men.

With the wins, the Lady Wolves improve to 6-0 (5-0), while the Wolves move to 5-1 (4-1). Both teams return to action with matches against Bevill State on Saturday, March 7.
