Lady Wolves Sweep Weekend Doubleheaders

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned to action with a pair of doubleheaders over the weekend. The Lady Wolves swept the action taking two games against Chipola on Saturday, February 28, 9-1 and 14-3, then swept Lansing on Sunday, March 1, 11-0 and 11-3.

CO-LIN 9 CHIPOLA 1

The Lady Indians got on the board first as they scored their only run of the game in the top of the second to take an early lead, 1-0.

The Lady Wolves found a response with five runs in the bottom of the third as Addison Lindley (Madison) and Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. Lindley then scored on an RBI-double by Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) while a two-RBI single by Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) scored Laiche and Phillips to give the Lady Wolves a 3-1 lead. Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) singled while Emilie Williams (Summit) drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. VanBlaircom then scored on a sacrifice fly by Annie Poole (Brookhaven) while Reine scored on a passed ball increasing the lead to 5-1.

The Lady Wolves then added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Laiche hit a leadoff single while Phillips followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position. Later in the inning, Laiche scored on a sacrifice fly while Phillips then scored on an RBI-double by Williams increasing the lead to 7-1. The Wolves then added a single run in the bottom of the fifth as Stella Roberts (Raymond) crushed a 3-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run to increase the lead to 8-1.

The Lady Wolves then ended the game with one run in the bottom of the sixth as Williams was hit-by-pitch to get the offense going. Landry Loper (Olive Branch) was then brought in as a pinch runner and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Poole. Morgan Chisolm (Madison) then delivered a walk-off RBI-single scoring Loper to secure the 9-1 victory.

The Wolves totaled 12 hits as a team as Brelie Phillips led the way with three hits while Noelle Laiche had two hits with Ayari VanBlaircom, Brooklyn Reine, Emilie Williams, Annie Poole, Morgan Chisolm, Stella Roberts, and Addison Lindley had one hit each. VanBlaircom led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with two while Phillips, Reine, Williams, Poole, Chisolm, and Roberts had one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got the start and improved to 7-1 overall with the complete game win allowing one earned run on three hits with six walks and three strikeouts.

CO-LIN 14 CHIPOLA 3

The Lady Wolves exploded for ten runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead as Brelie Phillips hit a leadoff double, Ayari VanBlaircom singled, and Brooklyn Reine was hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs. Emilie Williams then hit a two-RBI double scoring Phillips and VanBlaircom while Stella Roberts crushed a 1-2 pitch over the fence in centerfield making the score, 5-0. Morgan Chisolm then drew a walk, Annie Poole doubled, and Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) drew a walk to again load the bases with no outs. Noelle Laiche then hit an RBI-double while Phillips demolished a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for a three-run home run making the lead, 10-0.

The Lady Indians then took advantage of an error by the Lady Wolves to score a run and cut the lead down to 10-1. The Lady Wolves increased their lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Phillips ambushed the first pitch of the inning and crushed it over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run, her second of the game, and making the lead, 11-1. VanBlaircom then doubled and later scored on pinch-hit RBI-single by Bailey Parks (Smithdale) increasing the lead to 12-1.

The Lady Indians then scored a single run in the top of the fourth making the score, 12-2. However, the Lady Wolves responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth as Mady McCrory (Purvis) led off the inning being hit-by-pitch. Katelynn Malone (Bogue Chitto) ambushed the first pitch she saw and crushed it over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run increasing the lead to 14-2. The Lady Indians then scored a run in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Wolves got a flyout to end the inning and secure the sweep with a 14-2 victory.

The Lady Wolves totaled 14 hits as a team as Brelie Phillips and Ayari VanBlaircom both went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Cadence Sheppard (Hattiesburg), Ahlyana Houston (Summit), Emilie Williams, Bailey Parks, Stella Roberts, Annie Poole, Katelynn Malone, Noelle Laiche had one hit each. Phillips led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with four, Roberts had three, Williams and Malone had two RBIs apiece, while Parks and Laiceh had one RBI each.

Ava Browder (Picayune) got the start and improved to 5-1 overall with three innings pitched allowing one unearned run on one hit while Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) pitched one inning of relief allowing one earned run on three hits while Maddie West (Gonzales, LA) pitched one inning of relief allowing one unearned run on one hit.

CO-LIN 11 LANSING 0

The game was scoreless until the Lady Wolves plated three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead as Morgan Chisolm led off the inning being hit-by-pitch. Later in the inning, Noelle Laiche drew a walk to put two runners on with two outs. Brelie Phillips then crushed a 1-1 pitch over the fence in center field for a three-run home run making the score, 3-0.

The Lady Wolves then added two runs as Chisolm hit a two-out double to get the offense started. Annie Poole then demolished a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a two-run home run increasing the lead to 5-0.

The Lady Wolves scored their six four runs in the bottom of the fourth as Laiche hit a leadoff single, Phillips drew a walk, and Ayari VanBlaircom singled to load the bases with no outs. Brooklyn Reine then hit a two-RBI double scoring Laiche and Phillips while Emilie Williams followed with a second straight two-RBI double scoring VanBlaircom and Reine increasing the lead to 9-0. Stella Roberts then singled while Chisolm followed with an RBI-bunt single scoring Williams. Roberts then scored on a sacrifice fly by Poole pushing the lead to 11-0.

The Stars then loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the potential scoring threat and secured the shutout victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled 11 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom led the way with three hits while Morgan Chisolm had two hits with Brelie Phillips, Brooklyn Reine, Emilie Williams, Stella Roberts, Annie Poole, and Noelle Laiche had one hit each. Phillips and Poole led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three each while Reine and Williams had two RBIs apiece with Chisolm adding one RBI.

CO-LIN 11 LANSING 3

The Lady Wolves got on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as Ayari VanBlaircom singled, Brooklyn Reine reached on an error, and Emilie Williams walked to load the bases with one out. VanBlaircom and Reine then scored as Morgan Chisolm reached on an error giving the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Wolves then added five runs in the bottom of the second as Katelynn Malone hit a leadoff double while Noelle Laiche drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Brelie Phillips then hit a two-RBI double scoring Malone and Laiche while Phillips then scored on an RBI-single by VanBlaircom increasing the lead to 5-0. Reine then followed with a walk to once against put two runners on with no outs while Williams then hit a two-RBI double scoring Phillips and Reine making the score, 7-0.

The Lady Wolves then added a single run in the bottom of the third as Malone hit a leadoff single, stole second, and scored on an RBI-single by Addison Lindley increasing the lead to 8-0. The Stars then scored all three of their runs in the top of the fourth cutting the lead down to 8-3.

The Lady Wolves responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning as Morgan Chisolm smashed a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for a leadoff solo home run increasing the lead to 9-3. Later in the inning, Mady McCrory singled, stole second, and later scored on an error after Phillips reached on a single making the score, 10-3. The Lady Wolves then walked off the game in the bottom of the sixth as Abby Burnette hit a leadoff single while Landry Loper delivered a walk-off RBI-double scoring Burnette and ending the game, 11-3, while securing the sweep of the day.

The Lady Wolves totaled 13 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom once again led the way with three hits, going 6-for-6 at the plate in the two games against Lansing, while Brelie Phillips and Katelynn Malone had two hits apiece with Emilie Williams, Morgan Chisolm, Mady McCrory, Abby Burnette, Addison Lindley, and Landry Loper adding one hit each. Chisolm led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three while Phillips and Williams had two RBIs apiece with VanBlaircom, Lindley, and Loper adding one RBI each.

Lily Crum got the start and improved to 2-0 overall with four innings pitched allowing three runs, all earned, on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts while Maddie West pitched two innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit with one walk and two strikeouts.

Co-Lin is now 17-2 after the four-game sweep and will return to action hosting LSU-Eunice on Wednesday, March 4. The Top 5 showdown between the Lady Bengals and the Lady Wolves is set for a 3 p.m., first pitch in Wesson.
