WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team continued MACCC play by hosting Mississippi Delta on Saturday, March 14. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Trojans with a pair of shutout wins taking game one, 24-0, and game two, 8-0.
GAME ONE
The Lady Wolves started the scoring with seven runs in the bottom of the first as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) hit a leadoff double. Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) then smashed a 1-0 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead. Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) followed with a walk while Annie Poole (Brookhaven) then crushed a 0-1 pitch over the fence in right field for a two-run home run doubling the lead to 4-0. Emilie Williams (Summit) then reached base on an error and then later stole second. Later in the inning, Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) singled while Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) followed with a two-RBI single scoring Williams and Burnette. Laice later scored on a wild pitch making the score, 7-0.
The Lady Wolves then added seven more runs in the bottom of the second as VanBlaircom and Reine hit back-to-back singles to start the offense. Both then scored on a two-RBI single by Poole while Williams drew a walk and Morgan Chisolm (Madison, MS) hit a single to load the bases. Stella Roberts (Raymond) then drew a walk scoring Poole while Williams and Chisolm then scored on a two-RBI double by Burnette increasing the lead to 12-0. Later in the inning, Roberts scored on a sacrifice fly by VanBlaircom while Burnette scored on an error making the lead, 14-0.
The Lady Wolves added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Williams drew a walk and Chisolm singled to put two runners on with one out. Later in the inning, Williams and Chisolm scored on a two-RBI double by Katelynn Malone (Bogue Chitto) increasing the lead to 16-0.
The Lady Wolves scored their final four runs in the bottom of the fourth as Olivia Higginbotham (Hernando) and Landry Loper (Olive Branch) drew back-to-back walks to start the inning. Higginbotham then scored on an RBI-single by Anna Grace Rice (Greenwood) while Cadence Sheppard (Hattiesburg) drew a walk to load the bases with no outs. Bailey Parks (Smithdale) drew a walk scoring Loper while Rice then scored on a sacrifice fly by Roberts pushing the score to 19-0. Malone then crushed a 1-0 pitch over the fence in centerfield for a three-run home run making the score, 22-0. Ahlyana Houston (Summit) then drew a walk while Phillips then blasted a 1-1 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run increasing the lead to 24-0.
The Lady Trojans then got a leadoff single in the top of the fifth, but a strikeout, flyout, then groundout ended the inning securing the victory for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 19 hits as Brelie Phillips led the way with three hits while Ayari VanBlaicom, Annie Poole, Morgan Chisolm, Abby Burnette, Katelynn Malone, and Noelle Laiche had two hits apiece with Olivia Higginbotham, Brooklyn Reine, Landry Loper, and Anna Grace Rice had one hit each. Malone led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with five with Poole adding three RBIs while VanBlaircom had four. Phillips, Burnette, and Stella Roberts had two RBIs apiece while Rice and Bailey Parks had one RBI each.
Addison Lindley (Madison) got the start and improved to 11-1 overall with three innings pitched allowing two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second when Stella Roberts crushed a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a solo home run to give the Lady Wolves an early 1-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves then added to their lead with a pair of runs in the third as Brelie Phillips smashed a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run. Ayari VanBlaircom then ambushed and demolished the first pitch she saw to the same part of the field for back-to-back solo home runs increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Wolves tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Noelle Laiche hit a leadoff single while Phillips was hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with no outs. Both Laiche and Phillips then scored on a two-RBI triple by VanBlaircom. Olivia Higginbotham then delivered an RBI-single scoring VanBlaircom pushing the lead to 6-0.
The Lady Wolves then ended the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth as Abby Burnette got the offense started with a one-out single. Laiche then reached on an error while Phillips drew a walk to load the bases. VanBlaircom then hit a walk-off two-RBI double scoring Burnette and Laiche securing the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 11 hits as Ayari VanBlaircom led the way with three hits while Olivia Higginbotham, Abby Burnette, and Noelle Laiche had two hits apiece with Brelie Phillips and Stella Roberts adding one hit each.
Ava Browder (Picayune) got the start and improved to 10-1 overall with the complete game effort allowing three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Co-Lin improves to 25-2 overall, 6-0 in conference play, and will head the road for a Top 15 matchup against Hinds on Wednesday, March 18. First pitch between the No. 3 Lady Wolves and the No. 15 Lady Eagles is set for 3 p.m., at Rene T. Warren Field in Raymond.
