Browder’s Perfect Game Leads to Lady Wolves Sweep

WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team resumed MACCC play by hosting East Central on Tuesday, March 24. The Lady Wolves swept the Lady Warriors taking game one, 9-1, and game two, 8-0, as Ava Browder (Picayune) pitched a perfect game.

GAME ONE

The Lady Warriors got on the board first as they scored their only one run of the day and took an early lead, 1-0. However, the Lady Wolves wasted little time with a response as they plated two runs in the bottom half as Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) drew a leadoff walk. Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) then crushed a 2-1 pitch over the fence in right field for a two-run home run, her eighth of the season, to give the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead.

After the Lady Warriors were retired in order, the Lady Wolves added one run in the bottom of the second as Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) hit a one-out double to get the offense going. Laiche then stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Phillips increasing the lead to 3-1.

The Lady Wolves then struck for five runs in the bottom of the third as Annie Poole (Brookhaven) hit a leadoff double while Emilie Williams (Summit) was hit-by-pitch to put two runners on with no outs. Later in the inning, back-to-back RBI-singles by Addison Lindley (Madison) and Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) extended the lead to 5-1. After Laiche drew a walk to load the bases with two outs, Phillips hit a two-RBI single scoring Burnette and Stella Roberts (Raymond), who re-entered the game to run after Lindley's single. Laiche then scored on an RBI-double by VanBlaircom making the lead, 8-1.

The Lady Wolves scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) smashed an 0-1 pitch over the fence in right field for a solo home run, her fifth of the season, increasing the lead to 9-1. The Lady Warriors were then retired in order to seal the victory for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled ten hits as Ayari VanBlaircom led the way with two hits while Brelie Phillips, Annie Poole, Olivia Higginbotham (Hernando), Morgan Chisolm, Stella Roberts, Addison Lindley, Abby Burnette, and Noelle Laiche had one hit each. Phillips and VanBlaircom led the team in RBIs with three apiece while Chisolm, Lindley, and Burnette had one RBI each.

Addison Lindley got the start and improved her MACCC-leading wins total to 13 with the complete game effort allowing one run on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

GAME TWO

After Ava Browder started her outing with a six-pitch inning in the top of the first, the Lady Wolves plated two runs in the bottom half. Ayari VanBlaircom drew a one-out walk to get things started while Annie Poole blasted a 1-1 pitch over centerfield fence for a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, to give the Lady Wolves a 2-0 lead.

Browder then needed just five pitches to retire the Lady Warriors in order in the top of the second and the Lady Wolves scored three in the bottom half to increase the lead. Katelynn Malone (Bogue Chitto) drew a leadoff walk, but was called out for leaving early before Stella Roberts hit a double. Later in the inning, Noelle Laiche drew a walk to put two runners on with two outs while Brelie Phillips clobbered a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right field for a three-run home run, her team-leading 14th of the season, made the score, 5-0.

Browder then had her second-longest inning of the game as she needed 15 pitches to retire the Lady Warriors in the top of the third, but the Lady Wolves struck for three more runs in the bottom half as Poole drew a leadoff walk to get the offense started. Later in the inning, Morgan Chisolm drew a walk to put two runners on with one out. After a strikeout, Roberts reached on an error as Poole scored to extend the inning while Burnette delivered a two-RBI single scoring Chisolm and Roberts increasing the lead to 8-0.

Browder then had an eight-pitch top of the fourth while the Lady Wolves were held scoreless for the first time all day in the bottom half. Browder then completed the game with a 16-pitch fifth inning retiring the Lady Warriors to secure the perfect game and sweep for the Lady Wolves.

The Lady Wolves totaled five hits as Brelie Phillips, Ayari VanBlaircom, Annie Poole, Stella Roberts, and Abby Burnette had one hit each. Phillips led the team in RBIs with three while Poole and Burnette had two each.

Ava Browder got the start and improved to 12-1 with the perfect game needing just 50 pitches in the outing and had one strikeout.

Co-Lin is now 29-2 overall, 10-0 in MACCC play and will return to action hosting Northeast on Saturday, March 28. The Lady Wolves will celebrate Sophomore Day before the doubleheader against the Lady Tigers with first pitch set for 2 p.m., at Lady Wolves Field in Wesson.
