WESSON – The Co-Lin Softball team returned home for a ranked doubleheader against MACCC foe Itawamba. The No. 5 Lady Wolves swept the No. 13 Lady Indians taking game one, 8-0, and game two, 11-3.
GAME ONE
The Lady Wolves got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the second as Morgan Chisolm (Madison) hit a leadoff single while Abby Burnette (Brookhaven) reached on an error to put two runners on with one out. Later in the inning, Stella Roberts (Raymond) drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Noelle Laiche (Gonzales, LA) then hit a two-RBI single scoring Chisolm and Burnette while an error on the play allowed Roberts to score to give the Lady Wolves a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves added a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Annie Poole and Chisolm hit back-to-back singles to start the inning. After both runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Burnette, Poole scored as Olivia Higginbotham (Hernando) reached on an error. Chisolm then scored on a sacrifice fly by Roberts increasing the lead to 5-0.
The final three runs came in the bottom of the sixth as Roberts hit a leadoff single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Laiche. Ayari VanBlaircom (Daphne, AL) then hit an RBI-double scoring Roberts while Brelie Phillips (Conehatta) and Emilie Williams (Summit) then drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with one out. Chisolm then ripped a walk-off two-RBI double scoring VanBlaircom and Phillips to secure the 8-0 victory.
The Lady Wolves totaled eight hits as Morgan Chisolm led the way going 3-for-3 while Ayari VanBlaircom, Emilie Williams, Annie Poole, Stella Roberts, and Noelle Laiche had one hit each. Chisolm and Laiche led the team in RBIs with two apiece while VanBlaircom, Roberts, and Olivia Higginbotham had one RBI each.
Addison Lindley (Madison) got the start and improved to 15-3 with the complete game win allowing just two hits with three walks and six strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The Lady Wolves got on the board first again, this time with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first as Ayari VanBlaircom reached on an error and Brelie Phillips hit a bun single to start the inning. Later in the inning, VanBlaircom and Phillips scored on a two-RBI double to take an early 2-0 lead.
The Lady Wolves then added three runs in the bottom of the second as Stella Roberts hit a leadoff single and then scored on an RBI-double by Brooklyn Reine (Kentwood, LA) making the score, 3-0. Noelle Laiche then safely reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt to put two runners on with no outs. VanBlaircom then crushed a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left field for a three-run home run increasing the lead to 6-0. The Lady Wolves added a single run in the bottom of the third as Laiche smashed an 0-2 pitch over the left field fence for a solo home run, her second of the season, increasing the lead to 7-0.
The Lady Indians then scored three runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead down to 7-3. However, the Lady Wolves responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half as Morgan Chisolm got the offense started with a one-out double. Later in the inning, Chisolm scored as Abby Burnette reached on an error. After a single by Roberts, Burnette scored on an RBI-single by Reine pushing the lead to 9-3.
The Lady Wolves then scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth as VanBlaircom started the inning by reaching on an error. Later in the inning, Emilie Williams drew a walk to put two runners on with one out. Chisolm then hit an RBI-single scoring VanBlaircom while Annie Poole hit a walk-off RBI-single scoring Williams and securing the game two victory and sweep for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves totaled 14 hits as Annie Poole led the way with three hits while Ayari VanBlaircom, Morgan Chisolm, Stella Roberts, and Brooklyn Reine had two hits apiece with Brelie Phillips, Emilie Williams, and Noelle Laiche adding one hit each. VanBlaircom and Poole led the Lady Wolves in RBIs with three apiece while Reine had two RBIs with Chisolm and Laiche adding one RBI each.
Lily Crum (Vidalia, LA) got the start and improved to 5-0 with the win while pitching 3.1 innings and allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. Ava Browder (Picayune) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit.
Co-Lin is now 36-5 overall, 17-3 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road against Gulf Coast on Wednesday, April 15. First pitch between the Bulldogs and the No. 4 Lady Wolves is set for 4 p.m., at Ross-Smith Field in Perkinston.
