Lady Wolves lose heartbreaker to Jones 60-57 in OT
WESSON – In a battle of the unbeaten, the Jones College Lady Bobcats prevailed 60-57 over the Co-Lin Lady Wolves in overtime. Co-Lin's Derrica Gilbert (Minden, LA/Minden High School) tied the game at 48-all on a 3-point shot at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
In the overtime period, the Lady Bobcats took a 54-48 lead on two baskets by Kamryn Estell and a basket by Jayla Alexander. Co-Lin's Orlandrea Magee (Forest/Forest High School) hit 1-of-2 free throws and Gilbert nailed a three-pointer to cut the Jones lead to 54-52 with 1:11 remaining in the game. Daisha Bradford would hit 4-of-4 free throws to put the Lady Bobcats 58-52. The Lady Wolves would make one last run with a basket by Gilbert and a 3-pointer by Magee to close the Jones lead to 58-57. After a timeout, the Lady Wolves would foul Alexander who hit both free throws giving Jones the 60-57 lead. With six seconds left, Co-Lin point guard Marvia Spann (Madison/Germantown High School) would drive the ball down the court and pass to Magee who was in the corner, but her shot was partially blocked by Jones' Jordan Clark at the buzzer.
The game would be close throughout all four quarters with the largest lead for either team being five points.. The score would be tied 11 times with 10 lead changes.
Magee led the Lady Wolves with a game-high 20 points including11-16 from the free throw line. Jakrya Young (Kosciusko/Kosciusko High School) scored 12 points. Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg/Warren Central High School) pulled down eight rebounds and made four steals before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Alexander led Jones with 16 points followed by Bradford with 15 points and nine rebounds. Endia Holliday chipped in 13 points.
Next Up – The Lady Wolves travel to Meridian on Monday, February 15 to take on the Lady Eagles. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
