Poor shooting plagues the Lady Wolves

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves shot a dismal 26 percent in a losing effort to the visiting Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs 62-47.

"We struggled offensively for the game, shooting only 25.8 percent from the field and 10.5 percent from three point line," said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young.

The Lady Wolves trailed Gulf Coast 12-11 after the first quarter. It was the second quarter that Co-Lin had problems finding the basket. They scored five points in the quarter and trailed 28-16 at the half.

The second half was much like the first as the Lady Wolves struggled finding the basket. Co-Lin had opportunities to gain ground as they went to the free throw line, but they shot 13-of-29.

"We missed 16 free throws and were out rebounded by 23," said Young. "We have to get better in all phases of the game if we want to have a strong showing by the end of the year. Our mental toughness has to get better."

The Lady Bulldogs shot 41 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. They out rebounded the Lady Wolves 53-30.

Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg/Warren Central High School) and Derrica Gilbert (Minden, LA/Minden High School) scored 10 points apiece for the Lady Wolves. Sanders led off the backboard with 11 rebounds.

For Gulf Coast, Sharisse Bridges had a game-high 14 points. Ayanna McNairy came off the bench to score 13 points. Aniya Saddler pulled down nine rebounds.
