Lady Wolves rally falls short
WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves second half rally fell short as the Meridian Lady Eagles prevailed 56-53.
The Lady Eagles took a 32-14 lead into the locker room at the half as they outshot the Lady Wolves 40 percent to 23 percent in the first half.
Co-Lin started the second half on a 9-2 run to close the Meridian lead to 34-25 with 6:19 remaining in the third quarter.
Jakrya Young (Koscuisko/Koscuisko High School) hit two free throws with 7:15 left in the fourth quarter to pull the Lady Wolves to within four points 44-40. But Meridian's Berniya Hardin hit a trey and Sidney Sims would follow with a bucket to extend the Lady Eagles lead to 49-40 with 6:07 remaining. Co-Lin would go on a 10-3 run to close the lead to 52-50 with 3:15 left on a bucket by Jakiylah Esco (Ridgeland/Ridgeland High School), but that's as close as the Lady Wolves would get.
Hardin would lead the Eagles with 13 points. Sims and Ariana Hart chipped in 12 points apiece.
For Co-Lin, Aniya Sanders (Vicksburg/Warren Central High School) had a game-high 18 points and led off the backboards with seven rebounds. Marvia Spann (Madison/Germantown High School) and Orlandrea McGee (Forest/Forest High School) had nine points apiece.
