SCOOBA – Ja'Mia Hollings scored a game high 24 points to lead the No. 6 seeded East Mississippi Community College Lady Lions over the No. 11 Co-Lin Lady Wolves 69-49 in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Basketball Tournament held in Scooba. The Lady Wolves finish the season with a 5-9 record.
East Mississippi jumped out to a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Wolves could only muster 18 points in the first half. Although Co-Lin scored more points in the second half, they could not make up any ground.
Co-Lin shot 31 percent from the field compared to East Mississippi who shot 41 percent. The Lady Lions scored 26 points off Co-Lin turnovers.
The only other Lady Lion in double figures was Shakira Wilson with 11 points. Hollings and Amiyah Staples had seven rebounds apiece.
The Lady Wolves were led by Derrica Gilbert with 17 points. Aniya Sanders followed with 12 points and six rebounds. Jaklyiah Esco pulled down six boards.
