Lady Wolves Dominate Stars in Home Opener

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team opened the home portion of the 2024-25 regular season by hosting South Arkansas on Thursday, November 7. The Lady Wolves dominated both sides of the court en route to a 75-47 win over the Stars.

"This was a great way to open up the home portion of our season," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "It was a total team win that was sparked by our outstanding defensive effort. 21 team assist led to three players scoring in double figures in this game for us."

The opening minutes of the first quarter saw the Lady Wolves and Stars trading baskets and leads while the Lady Wolves ultimately held a 7-6 lead with 5:39 left to play. The Lady Wolves then went on a 6-2 scoring run to increase the lead to 13-8 with two minutes remaining. The Lady Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 5-0 scoring run to push their lead over the Stars to 18-8.

The Lady Wolves opened the second quarter with a 12-0 scoring run that increased their lead to 30-8 with 5:35 left to play. The Stars then used a quick 4-0 scoring run to cut the Lady Wolves lead down to 30-12 with two minutes to play in the first half. The Lady Wolves responded by closing out the half on a 6-5 scoring run to push their lead to 36-17 as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves continued to flex their muscles as they opened the third quarter with a 9-5 scoring run to push their lead to 45-22 with 6:47 left. The Lady Wolves continued to grow their lead as they went on a 9-4 scoring run that expanded the lead to 54-24 with 2:43 remaining in the quarter. The Lady Wolves then closed out the quarter with a 7-3 scoring run to push the lead to 61-27.

The Stars and Lady Wolves matched scoring totals with five points each to open the fourth quarter making the score, 66-32, with 6:01 remaining. The Lady Wolves then used a 9-6 scoring run to push their lead to 75-38 with 3:35 left to play in the game. The Stars scored the final eight points of the game, but the Lady Wolves did not relinquish the lead as they secured the 75-47 win.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the way for the Lady Wolves leading all scorers with 18 points along with six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) and Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had ten points each while Robinson added four rebounds, two assists, and one steal with Key having six rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Robinson was also a perfect 5-for-5 from the field during the game.

"Jay Robison was outstanding tonight shooting 100% from the field while Cookie Wilkinson also played extremely well scoring 18 with five three-pointers," added Stephens. "Eymani Key gave us a spark off the bench and was able to have a good game after being sidelined by injury the past game. Kylinn Bell made several outstanding passes that helped spark our offensive outpouring."

Tyra Johnson (Morton) had nine points, Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had eight points, and Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had seven points while Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) and Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had five points each with Kaylee Johnson (Booneville) and Kiersten Haynes (Clinton) having two points and one point respectively to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves. Barnes led the team in rebounds with seven while Mitchell led the team in assists with four.

Co-Lin is now 2-2 overall and will return to action on the road at Holmes on Monday, November 11. Tip-off between the Lady Wolves and Lady Bulldogs is set for 5:30 p.m., in Goodman.
