Lady Wolves Drop Conference Opener

SENATOBIA – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team opened MACCC play on the road against Northwest Mississippi on Monday, January 13. The Lady Rangers beat the Lady Wolves, 79-72.

"Very proud of our relentless effort in this game, especially at the end," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "Early in the game with did a very poor job defensively and we did a poor job rebounding the ball throughout the game. Our defensive effort in the third and fourth quarters was outstanding."

The Lady Wolves struggled out of the gate in the first quarter as the Lady Rangers outscored them, 24-11, to hold a lead at that margin at the end of play. However, the Lady Wolves fought back and outscored the Lady Rangers, 22-15, in the second quarter as the Lady Rangers held a 39-33 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The teams then matched baskets and scoring outputs in the third quarter as they added 16 points each while the Lady Rangers held on to the lead at 55-49. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rangers outscored the Lady Wolves, 24-23, to secure the 79-72 win.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the Lady Wolves offensively as she tied for the game lead in points with 22 while adding six rebounds, eight steals, and two assists. Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had 16 points with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals while Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had 15 points with eight rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

"Kam Pruitt was an impact player for us offensively and did an outstanding job on the glass while Cookie Wilkinson was also excellent offensively," added Stephens. "Maddi Mitchell was a catalyst for us on the defensive end, especially late in the game."

Kaylee Johnson (Booneville) had six points while Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge) and Tyra Johnson (Morton) had four points each while Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) and Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had two points apiece. Eymani Key (Lafayette, LA) had one point to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 10-6 overall, 0-1 in MACCC play, and will return to conference opener hosting Southwest Mississippi on Thursday, January 16. Tip-off between the Lady Bears and the Lady Wolves is set for 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym, in Wesson.
