Lady Wolves Drop Road Game Against Coahoma

CLARKSDALE – The Co-Lin Women's Basketball team hit the road for a MACCC contest against Coahoma on Thursday, February 13. The Lady Wolves got off to a slow start and fought their way from behind, but the Lady Tigers held off a late comeback attempt for a 66-58 win.

"I am proud of the fight we showed in this game especially in the second half," stated Co-Lin head coach Dr. Britta Stephens. "Once again, a slow start proved costly for us in this game. We also did a poor job on the boards, which really hurt us."

Both teams struggled scoring in the first quarter, but the Lady Tigers held outscored the Lady Wolves, 12-6, to hold a lead by that margin at the end of play. The Lady Wolves then responded with a better second quarter, but the Lady Tigers outscored them 13-11 to hold a 25-17 lead as the teams entered the locker rooms at halftime.

The Lady Wolves came out on fire in the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Tigers, 20-15, to cut the lead down to 40-37 going to the final quarter of play. The Lady Wolves fought hard throughout the final quarter but could not gain the lead as the Lady Tigers held them off and outscored them 26-21 to secure the 66-58 win.

Angel Wilkinson (Brookhaven) led the way for the Lady Wolves narrowly missing a double-double with 17 points and eight rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Kamaiyah Pruitt (Pass Christian) had ten points with five rebounds and two assists while Maddison Mitchell (Baton Rouge, LA) and Kylinn Bell (Choctaw) had seven points each.

Kaylee Johnson (Booneville) had six points while Jamyria Robinson (St. Martin) had four points with eight rebounds. Amari Barnes (Tylertown) had three points while Tyra Johnson (Morton) and Chrystance Walters (Pearl) had two points each to round out the scoring for the Lady Wolves.

Co-Lin is now 13-11 overall, 3-6 in MACCC play, and returns to action hosting East Central on Monday, February 17. The action between the Lady Warriors and Lady Wolves tips off at 5:30 p.m., at Mullen Gym in Wesson.
