SUMMIT – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team wrapped up the 2024 regular season with a road match against Southwest on Tuesday, October 29. The Lady Wolves shutout the Lady Bears and earned a clean sheet in a 3-0 victory.
"The girls were excellent from start to finish of this match," stated Co-Lin head coach Tom Cosgrave. "We looked solid defensively and looked dangerous every time we went forward."
The Lady Wolves scored their first goal midway through the first half as Alisa Johnson (Leakesville) headed the ball past the Lady Bears keeper off a corner kick by Emmi Cook (Chesterfield, England) in the 25th minute. The Lady Wolves extended their lead late in the first half as Reagan Fortenberry (Brookhaven) scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Avery Rankin (Brandon) in the 37th minute making the score, 2-0. That score held throughout the remainder of the first half.
The Lady Wolves added their final goal in the second half as Siobhan Scott (Glasgow, Scotland) smashed a penalty kick past the keeper in the 74th minute to increase the lead to 3-0. The Lady Wolves stalled out the Lady Bears forward attack for the remainder of the match to secure victory.
Olivia Conway (Huddersfield, England) saved all seven shots on goal faced throughout the match.
"I was very proud of the girls for their togetherness during this match," added Cosgrave. "The whole team was encouraging each other throughout the entire match."
Co-Lin is now 4-5-4 overall, 4-4-3 in MACCC play, and has qualified for the Region 23 Tournament. The Lady Wolves will face off against the No. 5 Lady Bulldogs of Holmes on Saturday, November 2 at 1 p.m., at the Ridgeland Campus.
"We've told the girls all year that once you get to playoffs anyone can win on their given day," added Cosgrave.
