Bio

Brenda Smith begins her second season as an assistant coach after returning to Co-Lin’s tennis program last season as a volunteer assistant coach. She previously served as head coach until her retirement in 2018.

During her tenure with both the Wolves and Lady Wolves, Smith had two men’s teams post the top GPA in the nation and were recognized as the No. 1 team in the NJCAA and the MACCC. Her 2015 team finished the season ranked 25th in the final ITA poll.

During her time with the Lady Wolves, the team made eight consecutive trips to the NJCAA National Tournament while she compiled an overall record of 122-30 during that tenure. Her teams won a multitude of championships throughout her tenure at the individual, team, and region levels while six of her teams finished ranked nationally. All eight  teams that went to Nationals finished in the top 25 ITA/NJCAA rankings. 2002 women were top 10 with 2 National single’s semi-finalists. During her tenure, the programs won NJCAA National Academic team of the year 5 times (2 for men, 3 for women)

Smith is a graduate of Cloud County Community College (KS) and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi College. She is in the Hall of Fame for both colleges. Smith and her husband, Steve, are the parents of two sons, Matt and Josh, and five grandchildren: Liam, Vivian, Jackson, Lillie Kay, and Raleigh. Matt was a two-year starter for the Wolfpack baseball team, and Josh played tennis for his mother in 2013. They are active members of Clear Branch Baptist Church.
