WESSON – The Co-Lin Men's Basketball team resumed MACCC action by hosting Meridian on Thursday, February 12. The Wolves and Eagles needed extra time to decide a winner as the Wolves ultimately came out victorious, 63-59.
The Wolves came out hot offensively and opened on a 9-5 scoring run as a pair of free throws by Moustapha Salekh (Ngekoh, Senegal) gave the Wolves a lead by that margin with 17:17 left to play in the first half. The Eagles then went on a 9-8 scoring run, but the Wolves held a 17-14 lead after a layup by Dylan Creggett with 9:41 remaining. The Eagles then went on an 11-6 scoring run to take a 25-20 lead over the Wolves after a layup by Tyrell Bowles (Springdale, MD) with 4:36 left on the clock. The Eagles then closed out the half with a 7-5 scoring run to push their lead to 32-25 as the teams hit the locker rooms for halftime.
The Wolves once again came out hot offensively to start the second half as they went on an 11-5 scoring run and cut the lead down to 37-36 after a three pointer by Morris Hammond (Ridgeland) with 16:15 left on the clock. However, the Eagles responded with a 9-8 scoring run to push their lead 46-44 after a pair of free throws by Tristian Lucas (Pearl) with 46-44 left to play. The Wolves then went on a 7-2 scoring run to take a 51-48 after a layup by Koie Williams (Philadelphia) with 3:55 remaining in regulation. The Eagles then went on a 6-3 scoring run including a game-tying three with 43 seconds left while both teams then had one chance to get a game-winning basket but neither could as regulation ended tied at 54-54.
In the overtime period, the Wolves outscored the Eagles 9-5, to earn the 63-59 victory.
Koie Williams led the way for the Wolves with 13 points and seven rebounds along with four assists and two steals while Tyrell Bowles and Caleb Crozier (Yazoo City) had 12 points each with Bowles adding three rebounds, one assist, and one steal while Crozier narrowly missed a double-double with eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
Trisitan Lucas had eight points while Morris Hammond and Moustapha Salekh had six points each. LeBron Deal (Monroe, LA) had four points with Dylan Creggett adding two points to round out the scoring for the Wolves.
Co-Lin is now 12-9 overall, 5-3 in MACCC play, and will return to action on the road at Jones on Monday, February 16. Tip-off between the Wolves and Bobcats is set for 7:30 p.m. at A.B.Howard Gymnasium in Ellisville.
