DECATUR, Miss. – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team took to the road for the next match of the season as they faced off against East Central on Friday, September 3. The Lady Wolves beat the Lady Warriors, 2-1, to earn their first win of the season.
The Lady Wolves got on the board early as Jess Abrantes (Peterborough, England) netted her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 13th minute to give the Lady Wolves a 1-0 lead. The Lady Wolves played strong defense throughout the remainder of the first half keeping the Lady Warriors out of the net as the 1-0 lead held.
The Lady Warriors then tied the game with a goal midway through the second half making the score, 1-1. However, the Lady Wolves found a response late in the match as Madeline Logan (Brandon) beat the Lady Warriors keeper for her first goal of the season with an assist from Ella-Mai Bale (Peterborough, England) giving the Lady Wolves a 2-1 lead in the 82nd minute. The Lady Wolves defense then kept the Lady Warriors from finding an equalizer to seal the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Conway (Huddersfield, England) saved five of six shots on goal faced throughout the match.
Co-Lin is now 1-1-0 overall and will return to action on the road against National Park College on Wednesday, September 10. Kickoff between the Wolves and the Nighthawks is set for 1 p.m., in Arkansas.
