Lady Wolves Play to Draw in Conference Opener

WESSON – The Co-Lin Women's Soccer team opened MACCC play with a match against Southwest that also was the home opener on Tuesday, September 16. The Lady Wolves tied the Lady Bears, 1-1.

The Lady Bears got the scoring started in the first half with a goal in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Wolves looked to find an equalizer before the end of the first half, but were unsuccessful as the Lady Bears maintained their lead as the horn sounded for halftime.

The Lady Wolves wasted little time in finding an equalizer early in the second half as Madeline Logan (Brandon) beat the keeper with a header off a corner kick from Jess Abrantes (Peterborough, England) in the 49th minute to tie the game at 1-1. The Lady Wolves continued to pressure the Lady Bears and find a go-ahead goal with several scoring chances throughout the second half. However, neither team found another goal as the match ended in a tie, 1-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Conway (Huddersfield, England) saved six of seven shots faced throughout the match.

Co-Lin is now 2-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in MACCC play and will return to action with a match against East Mississippi on Friday, September 19. Kickoff between the Lady Wolves and the Lady Lions is set for 5 p.m., in Scooba.
